What's the Best Fire Protection For Your Business?

Posted on 02/11/2017 Fire Door and Fire Exit

Keeping your building safe and secure is of the greatest importance. The correct use and installation of fire safety doors, curtains and shutters saves lives and stops the spread of fire. Different fire and safety concerns, as well as the layout of a building, will determine which product is best suited. We’ve compiled this guide to help you determine which product is right for you.

What’s the Difference?

Fire Doors are internal doors designed to contain the spread of a fire. A legal requirement for public buildings as well as shared residential buildings such as blocks of flats.

Fire Exits are external doors used as a means to escape a fire.

Fire Shutters are metal roller shutters that control the spread of a fire and are often used for areas such as hatches between a kitchen and canteen.

Fire Curtains are curtains woven with Kevlar and stainless steel that control the spread of fire. Often used in large buildings such as shopping centres and factories.

Fire Rating

All of our doors, shutters and curtains are manufactured with either a 60, 120 or 240 minute fire rating. The time indicates how long they can withstand extreme temperatures and conditions. Rigorous testing ensures that these ratings are accurate and that the products comply with British fire-safety regulations.

Automatic

Curtains and shutters can be connected to your fire alarm, automatically deploying in the event of an emergency. They have their own back-up battery unit in case of a power outage. Curtains also have a gravity fail safe – meaning that they will still operate if the power and back-up battery are out.

Additional Safety Features

Fire curtains provide an additional safety feature in that anyone trapped behind it can escape. Unlike shutters, curtains can be lifted or cut, whilst larger curtains have sections of overlapping cloth that can be pulled apart.

Fire doors with louvre panels have a fail-safe fusible link. Under normal conditions, they allow airflow but in the case of an emergency they won’t spread fumes or fire.

Style and Security

We hope that your business won’t be affected by fire and that your doors, curtains or shutters will never be needed for fire protection. Thus, their ability to serve a dual purpose makes them an even greater investment. Shutters provide security to a premises, as do the steel doors we use for fire doors and exits.

We offer our ranges in a huge number of colours, finishes and styles to fit in seamlessly with your décor. The shutters and curtains retreat into a discreet box and are unobtrusive when not needed.
