We’ve just finished a job at Mablethorpe Lifeboat Station, swapping out their old sectional door for a new Hörmann SPU F42 insulated model. Always great working with the RNLI – their kit has to handle some pretty tough coastal weather, so this door was a solid choice for them.
We started by carefully removing and disposing of the existing door before fitting the new Hörmann sectional door. The SPU F42 is a solid, double-skinned design made from galvanised steel with a high-grade polyurethane foam core for insulation. The door was finished in Gentian Blue (RAL 5010) on the outside to match the lifeboat station’s look, with a clean off-white interior (RAL 9002) to brighten up the inside.
This model performs brilliantly in demanding conditions, offering excellent thermal insulation (1.2 W/m²K) and top-rated protection against wind and water (both Class 3). We also added two rows of vision windows to let more light into the building and fitted extra corrosion protection on the fittings to help them stand up to the salty coastal air.
The door runs on a 400v three-phase operator, making it simple and reliable to use day to day. There’s also a manual hand chain in case of a power cut, and the control system includes a safety edge that automatically stops if it detects any obstruction - keeping everything safe for the RNLI crew.
Once everything was installed, we carried out full wiring, testing, and commissioning to make sure everything worked exactly as it should. The whole job went smoothly, and the team at the station were brilliant to work with throughout.
Afterwards, we received this lovely message from the client:

It’s always rewarding to get feedback like that. We’re really proud of how this installation turned out - it’s a great example of the quality and reliability Hörmann doors are known for, and it’ll serve the lifeboat crew well for years to come.
