We’re extremely satisfied with our part in the transformation of The Old Carrot Wash Building in Woodbridge. This lovely old barn, which used to be a carrot processing facility, has been completely upgraded with a Hormann door installed by Cooks Industrial Doors.

The Challenge

The old Carrot Wash building had a large opening on its facade that was covered by an old and rusty steel door. We were tasked with removing the existing system and installing a modern industrial door that would provide security and insulation, and allow some natural light into the building.

The Solution

Cooks Industrial Doors supplied and installed a Hörmann SPU F42 double skinned insulated sectional door with an inset wicket door and three rows of windows. Just some of the features of this industrial door that made it perfect for the location included:

  • Compliance with EN 13241-1, which is the European standard for safety in use of power operated doors.
  • High performance in terms of wind pressure, water tightness, air permeability, sound insulation, and manual opening and closing force.
  • Anti-lift, anti-drop, and anti-slack devices that prevent the door from being lifted or falling in case of cable or spring failure.
  • Double skinned steel panel with a polyurethane foam core that provides thermal insulation and noise reduction.
  • Horizontally ribbed design with finger trap protection that gives it an industrial look and prevents injuries.
  • Polyester stucco embossed coating on both sides that is durable and easy to maintain.
  • Silver colour that matches the exterior of the building.
  • Wicket door that allows pedestrian access without opening the whole garage door, which is convenient and energy efficient. The wicket door has a low profile threshold, lever handles, lock, Euro cylinder, and a VL2 safety edge.
  • Three rows of compound windows that allow natural light and into the building. The windows have zinc diecast frames that are sturdy and elegant.

The Installation

We installed the garage door to cover the structural opening of 4420mm wide x 4300mm high. We installed a fascia panel and soffit panel. The power operation consisted of a three-phase 400v operator with emergency hand chain operation, a self-monitoring closing edge safety device using opto-sensors, and an A445 pre-wired control unit.

The Result

The result is a stunning industrial door makeover that transformed the Old Carrot Wash Building from rusty eyesore to modern farm outbuilding which can be used for multiple purposes.
