Installation: Large Security Doors for the Back Entrance of Norwich’s Theatre Royal

Posted on 05/07/2017

If you’ve been to Norwich’s Theatre Royal, chances are you have entered via the elegant glass shop front on Theatre Street, shown your ticket to the attendant and wandered upstairs to the bar for a pre-show drink. You may have admired the sets during the performance, but did you give any thought to how they get in and out of the building? We recently installed these large steel security doors at the rear of the theatre.

Touring Shows

Most of the shows that are put on at the Theatre Royal are from touring theatrical companies. They arrive with all the costumes and sets in the back of a lorry and everything has to be unloaded and set up quickly. One show will end and their tech team will dismantle (the technical term is ‘strike’) their set overnight. The following day the next team need to set up for their performance. You can see how essential it is that the doors to get stage equipment in and out are large.

Robust Steel Security Doors

Depending on the size of the equipment that needs to be moved, up to four of these doors can be opened at once. Once all the bulky stage flats and other paraphernalia have been assembled and only people need to move in and out, just one of the four doors can be used on its own. When locked, the quadripartite door forms a robust barrier – a secure deterrent to intruders.
