Having the right fire protection and complying with health and safety regulation is paramount for any business, just as important are regular checks and maintenance to ensure that your equipment is in order and working correctly. Our expert team are here to help your premises and staff stay safe. Read on for our top tips for fire safety.

Regular Risk Assessments

Fire risk assessments are required by law for all non-domestic premises under The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005. The law states that assessments should be undertaken at regular intervals. The responsible person should judge how regular the checks should be based on the size, location and nature of the building. Annual risk assessments are the most common for low to normal risk premises, but certain factors should prompt additional assessments. These include:

  • Alterations to the structure of the building
  • Personnel numbers increase significantly
  • A young person, or disabled person is hired
  • New equipment, machinery or large fixtures are introduced
  • Hazardous substances or materials are introduced or changed
  • A fire-related incident or accident occurs
  • Fire safety equipment is damaged

If the responsible person on site doesn’t feel they are suitably competent to carry out the assessment, there are many companies offering their services who employ trained and experienced assessors who will carry out a thorough check of your premises.
